1200 Degrees EP79 plus 1200 Twelves EP33 ft Fonki Cheff (SPAIN) with your host DJ D
Fonki Cheff is a DJ / record collector from Benicarló,
Castellón.
His style is varied and eclectic to unsuspected limits, mixing
styles as diverse as rumba, funk, disco and boogaloo, with a
predilection for black dance music. In his sessions he reaches
a total complicity with the public through his mixing and
scratch technique, making the crowd dance without even
realizing that it is changing both the style and the musical
era.
During the 7 years in London, together with the 6 years in
the United States and the countless trips to Cuba, South
America, North Africa and all of Europe, the record suitcase
of this inveterate music lover is full of classics and
oddities, making his sessions a trip around of the world
through its music.
From the beginning his references were the pioneers of what
later came to be called hip hop, such as Grand Master Flash,
Afrika Bambaata and dj Kool Herc, who showed the world new
techniques, using turntables as an instrument and the way in
which they began to rescuing songs forgotten by the general
public, presenting them in an innovative way, these techniques
are what led him to become champion of the Valencia Redbull
Thre3styles of 2011 and spanish national finalist in that
same year.
In 2003, together with Suzuki Zuriaga and Stupendo Kalamar,
they formed Rocksteady Beatz, which was the pioneering
turntablism group in Valencia to carry out the sessions with 4
turntables and two mixing tables simultaneously, during ten
years that the training lasted, they carried out intense work
in clubs. and festivals.
Now in the pandemi time he started his own online dj school
helping other djs to scratch and mix properly.

1200 Twelves mix #14 |
Sideshow Maule |
2021 |
On this episode we revisit mix #14 mixed by Sideshow Maule hailin outta Germany and Scotland. Known for his breakdancing skills, and having taught others this element of hip hop, he was always fascinated by the artform of turntablism, he says:
"I’m thankful that I couldn’t afford to buy them when I was younger as I would not have went on to become a dancer and been fortunate enough to have experienced what I have already in my life. I think that being a dancer will help me become a good DJ as rhythm + timing are paramount to both these elements and I will know what people want to hear when out partying.
Hip-Hop culture has given me so much joy in my life and I’ve always wanted to share that with everyone and to pass it on to future generations that follow."

On this weeks episode of 1200 Twelves we hit mix #30 coming to us from the AU mixed by Jaybreaks Nonstop in the second hour, with yours truly DJ D in the mix for the first hour hittin 7"/45 records 12" vinyl/wax & DVS for EP75 of 1200 Degrees
Our guest Jaybreaks Nonstop says: "This mix encapsulates the sounds of an era that started in the early '70s. By the late 70s Disco and Funk merged and branched off to form new genres. The evolution of dance music had begun and block parties had a lot to do with it. These are tunes from that era that show the musical diversity from different parts of the States at that time."

1200 Degrees EP75 plus 1200 Twelves EP29 ft My Therapist Is A DJ x (UK) with your host DJ D
Our guest My Therapist is a DJ has played the festival circuit regularly, hitting a number of locations including Glastonbury, Shambala, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Boom Town, Lovebox, Standon Calling, Give/Kimberley, One Taste to name a few.
He says: "When we play music for others we experience reading the emotion of the crowd and then adjusting our music to meet their mood and then elevate it. Even though we're interacting with hundreds or maybe thousands, while a therapist is working with just one person at a time, the same principal applies: meet the client where they are, then help them to get somewhere better."
